Braves Acquire OF Sam Hilliard

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves acquired OF Sam Hilliard from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Dylan Spain.

Hilliard, 28, appeared in in 70 games with Colorado last season, hitting .184 (32-for-174) with a .544 OPS. The 6-foot-5, 236-pound native of Mansfield, Texas, played all three outfield positions last season, finishing with three assists and no errors.

Hilliard, who bats and throws left-handed, hit a career-best 14 home runs in 2021, and has 29 home runs in 570 career at-bats.

Originally drafted by Colorado in the 15th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University, Hilliard made his major league debut in 2019 with the Rockies.

Spain, 24, was a 10th-round pick of Atlanta in 2021. He is 1-5 with a 4.03 ERA in 47 career minor league games.
