680 THE FAN, ATLANTA – Right now, former UGA quarterback Jake Fromm is fighting for a NFL job, at the Bills training camp in Buffalo. Most of the media is wondering if he is going to make the cut.

I got a few minutes with Jake Monday afternoon after practice.

Fromm sounded relaxed, confident and excited about getting some reps at practice in camp and playing time in the 3 preseason games coming up soon. He is anxious to show the Bills what he can do, because last season was a complete wash with the Covid situation. He barely got a look.

Now a year later, he is comfortable with the Bills scheme and knows the players. Jake is now in a position to give it his best shot.

Josh Allen is the Bills franchise quarterback and he is about to sign a huge deal. Buffalo brought in former Bears QB Mitch Trubisky to be the back-up this season. They have a playoff caliber team, so that makes sense. If Allen got dinged up, Trubiski gives them a back-up that has some experience.

Fromm’s mindset is to show the Bills that he belongs in NFL. Perform well enough to make them keep him as the #3 guy in ’21. Prove to the Bills that he can be the #2 guy in 2022 and beyond. So, this is a big training camp for him.

What does Jake have to do to impress them?

Buck’s interview with Jake Fromm can be heard exclusively on 680 The Fan, this Wednesday on “The Buck Belue Show” from 10am-11am. The entire interview can be heard on Buck’s podcast, “Buck’s Beat,” which drops Wednesday morning on thepodcastpark.com

Number one, he must show the Bills that he can operate effectively in their scheme. By now, he knows the offense completely. So, that should not be an issue.

Number two, Jake must show everyone that his arm is strong enough to make all the throws, at the NFL level. The jury is still out on that one.

In the interview, I asked him if he had any regrets on leaving UGA a year early. Sounded like he was just ready for a new challenge.

I also asked about the UGA quarterback room, when he was competing against Jacob Eason & Justin Fields. Jake says those two guys brought out the best in him.

He talks about losing to Alabama in the National Title game and the one thing he took for granted was how difficult it is to get back there.

I’ve always been impressed with Jake Fromm.

He stepped onto the field as a freshman quarterback and helped lead the Bulldogs to the National Championship game. That’s special, man.

Will he find his way in the NFL? He’s got a shot. That’s all anyone in his place wants!
