Sports betting… Let’s GO!

680 THE FAN, ATLANTA – Some of us do it. Admit it, it’s cool.

We’re in the age right now of budget deficits and an ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. What better way to help, than putting the money back in through legalized sports gambling! The Georgia Senate has already passed legislation to get the ball rolling.

We all know the ways to get around the “guardrails” for gambling in the state at the moment. It’s not fun to jump through hoops and I’m done with it. Give me a sanctioned app to bet on and I’m good.

According to Sen. Jeff Mullis (via MDJOnline.com), R-Chickamauga, More than 2 million Georgians now bet illegally, spending $4 billion a year on sports betting. $4 billion! Are you kidding me?! That needs to be in our pockets as a state.

Come on Georgia House. It’s time to put the concerns in the past. Then, it’s up to the voters to make this happen.

Now, let us bet on Georgia schools. The industry is so closely monitored and regulated now. We’re not going to have a Boston College situation here. It doesn’t happen. These oddsmakers and books are too smart to get fooled by criminals. That’s how they have the huge, nice buildings in Las Vegas.

I get that gambling is a morality issue for some. If you feel that way, then all good. But your beliefs are your beliefs. Why should they infringe on my right to place a bet on sports?

We’re not all of the sudden going to fall into the Atlantic Ocean due to the weight of our sins, because legal sports betting is allowed by the state. In fact, we’ll stand to benefit people even more through the state lottery. $4 billion dollars will do that.

It’s time Georgia. Let’s do it. Let’s stand to make some money!
