Having a conversation about Georgia Football with Buck and the “Road Dawg” Adam Gillespie is always enlightening and entertaining. If you missed our exchange on Monday’s Eclipse Edition of Buck and Kincade it was now eye opening.
As you know, I am both feet firmly on the Kirby Smart bandwagon. I have said since Day One of his tenure that at the end of 3 seasons I would be ready to pass judgment as to whether he was going to succeed at Georgia. I don’t waiver on that. This year must show progress, but the final chapter won’t be written in 2017 for me!
When the rankings came out and the Dawgs were at 15, the boys proceeded to tell me that I was setting them up for failure. They claim it is an agenda to build up the Dawgs and then tear them down! Interesting theory. Full of holes, but interesting none the less!
The expectations for Georgia Football are set by local and national experts. We discuss them. If Georgia does not live up to their expectations it has nothing to do with me or any other media member. For the record, I believe completely in Kirby Smart. I’m expecting a 10-2 season. If they go 9-3 it can still be progress, but I’ll be less enthused. I consider 10-2 to be how Kirby gets an “A” in Year Two. Period. If he meets expectations it will reinforce my belief. If he fails, that is on him.
Embrace expectations Dawgs fans. I bet he delivers!
STOP DOWNPLAYING PRE-SEASON SUCCESS FOR THE FALCONS
You can’t win discussing the NFL in August. If things go well and you praise the Falcons, you get ripped for buying into pre-season.If things go poorly you are told it doesn’t matter. Memo to NFL fans, pre-season matters!
If you just observe pre-season with an eye on the starting units, it matters. If you concentrate on how the starting units perform, it matters. If you worry about the 3rd stringers OR the final scores you will lose your mind and waste your time.
The Falcons look great with just one dress rehearsal. Just enjoy it.
A THANK YOU TO CHRISTOPHER RUDE
I wanted to mention how much I will miss seeing Christopher Rude at station events and being on the same team with him. His professionalism, humor and talents were truly unique. Rude was a fellow cancer warrior and I’m damn proud of his recovery. His presence will be missed. I wish him nothing but success in whatever the future holds!

Much thanks to David Dickey as I have signed a new contract extension to remain at 680 The Fan. We are approaching two more milestones in the coming weeks, 17 years and our 4,000th show. I appreciate and am honored to continue to represent this brand for years to come. It is amazing to see how we have grown and continue to look towards future challenges!
