I’ve grown tired of the people who are demanding a playoff victory to validate this Falcons season as “progress”. I know that they are currently only 8-5 and have just matched last seasons win total, but I see so much more.

During that tremendous beat down of the Rams I tried to find a unit that I felt was playing at a lower level than they were in early October. Good News? I really can’t find one. The running game isn’t putting up crazy numbers, but points per game is all I want to judge an offense by. They currently are 5.4 points per game better than the second best team in the NFL. They are almost 12 points a game better than last year. That is nothing short of amazing and PROGRESS.

Yes, the defensive statistics have regressed this year, but the experience on the roster makes that explainable. I also know that they are younger, more talented and more athletic than last year. That is worth celebrating. Falcons fans have seen an improved defense over the past 6 games with 5 of them being better than the average. This team is headed in the right direction even if the steps are small.

If the Falcons win ten games and go to the playoffs I will consider that true PROGRESS and a success. If they win a playoff game my grade of A will become an A+. I don’t expect 2016 to end in the Super Bowl, but things have progressed nicely.

geo-helmet-awayThe talented Adam Gillespie “Road Dawg” has a blog up on the website about the current cost of funding a coaching staff at Georgia. The 5th most expensive assistants in America. I think it is fair to question whether the coaches earned their large paychecks. Larger than Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson, etc…

My issue continues to be with a bonus structure for underachieving. It doesn’t exist in any other line of work. Your company doesn’t reward you for 7-5. The paydays for mediocre performance is out of control.
