Christopher Rude

I was raised in Southern California…You’ve heard of “Hollywood & Vine?” I actually went to Vine Street Elementary School. Sold lemonade outside of Desilu studios to Lucy Arnaz. I met Moe of “The Three Stooges” one day at the barbershop when I was having my hair cut. I remember living on Harold Way which was right behind KNXT-TV. We used to play handball up against their studio. One day, one of the producers invited us in to watch a taping of “Panorama Pacific.” It was one of those typical morning news/ interview programs. Mickey Rooney was the guest that day. In the parking lot for the show, The Munsters Coach, The Monkees Mobile, and Dragula! It was then that I realized some form of show business would be my life.

If you listen to 680 The Fan’s Rude Awakening, you know that I had quite a scare in June of 2009. I woke up on Fathers Day. I woke up with an unusual sore throat. Long story short, turned out to be stage 4 “head & neck” cancer, which had spread from the base of my tongue to a lymph node. After chemo, radiation, and the help of my family and some very exceptional doctors, nurses and care givers, I’m still here to tell the story and to try and help others fighting this awful disease. A second chance on life!

In addition to sports, I still love music. I play guitar and just about any instrument I can get my hands on. One of my goals is to record a CD of original music. I am in the process of doing that now. It’s a slow process when your playing all the instruments yourself!  A labor of love, though. Artists I’m listening to right now? Soul Coughing, The Kills, Nine Inch Nails (always!) Radiohead, Korn, Joe Bonnamassa, Jeff Beck, Govt Mule…

Chris Dimino

Chris Dimino is about to embark on his 23rd year on the air in Atlanta. Originally a caller back in 1993 to 680 The Fan, he was hired as a full time host in a TOP 10 market without any previous radio experience.  Chris jokes that his radio “training” came from his days as a bartender in New Jersey.

Chris has won multiple awards and was the recipient of the Furman Bisher Award. Previous winners have included Larry Munson, Pete Van Wieren, and Skip Caray.  According to Dimino, “It’s the only visible thing in my house that would let you know what I do for a living.”

Chris’ favorite part of the job is being able to talk to people who have made impacts.  According to Dimino, “Some of the greatest stories in sports have been told to our audience…first person…by some of the greatest participants.”

Tom Glavine

Glavine attended Billerica Memorial High School and was two-sport, All-Star athlete in hockey and baseball. Upon graduation, Glavine was drafted by both the Atlanta Braves (Second round) and Los Angeles Kings (Fourth round).

Good thing for the fans in Atlanta that Tom chose to stick with baseball!

Glavine made stops in Bradenton, Sumter, Greenville and Richmond before he got the call to the bigs on August 17, 1987. One start later, Glavine recorded his first win at the expense of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The rest, as they say is history.

Tom Glavine Baseball cardFrom 1997 through 2002, Glavine was one of the Braves most successful pitchers of all time racking up two Cy Young Awards, 5 seasons of 20 or more wins and four Silver Slugger Awards (Proving he is a pitcher that CAN hit too!). The crowning achievement of his career was being named World Series MVP for his 8-inning, one-ruin performance against the Cleveland Indians in Game 6 of the 1995 World Series.

In 2002, Glavine signed as a free agent with the New York Mets where he spent the next 5 seasons. While a Met, Glavine recorded his 300th career victory and became just the 23rd pitcher to achieve that feat!

Glavine returned to the Braves in November of 2007 where he finished his baseball career as a pitcher.

After five seasons with the Mets, Glavine became a free agent in November 2007 and returned to the Braves, signing a one-year deal. For the next two years, Glavine spent time on and off the disabled list until he announced his retirement on February 11th, 2010. He then accepted a position with the Braves as a special assistant to team president John Schuerholz.

Glavine appears in both the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame (Inducted 2010) and the MLB Hall of Fame (Inducted 2014). He was a first-ballot inductee receiving 91.9% of the votes!

Currently, Tom Glavine can be heard every Friday on 680 The Fan’s “Rude Awakening”. Tom gives listeners his all-star take on the news and happenings in the Major Leagues.
