Thrashers land Kubina from Maple Leafs

The Atlanta Thrashers have acquired defenseman Pavel Kubina from Toronto in a four-player trade.

The Thrashers announced Wednesday night they have traded defenseman Garnet Exelby and forward Colin Stuart to the Maple Leafs for Kubina and forward Tim Stapleton.

The 32-year-old Kubina (koo-BEE-nuh) matched his career high with 40 points for Toronto last season. He had 14 goals and 26 assists.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Kubina, a 2004 All-Star, will add size and experience to the Thrashers' line.

Pistons agree to deals with Gordon, Villanueva

A person with the knowledge of the negotiations says the Detroit Pistons have agreed in principle to contracts with free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday night on the condition of anonymity because NBA rules prohibit teams from announcing free agent signings until next week.
