Braves Make 12 Picks In The First 10 Rounds Of Draft Atlanta has made 12 total picks through draft’s first 10 rounds

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves today concluded Day 2 of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, selecting eight total players, including seven from the collegiate ranks, after making four selections last night.

The Braves opened Day 2 by selecting catcher Drake Baldwin from Missouri State University with the 96th overall pick, Atlanta’s first position player taken in the draft. Baldwin, 21, batted .341/.448/.647 during his junior season with the Bears in 2022, collecting 19 homers and 70 RBI in just 60 games. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound native of Madison, WI, reached base safely in 57 of his 60 contests on the season, including 30 consecutive, and his 70 RBI stand as seventh most in a single season in school history. He was named an ABCA South All-Region First Team member and earned second-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors on the year.

The Braves took a trio of collegiate infielders on Day 2, including second baseman Cory Acton from the University of Georgia in the ninth round. In his only season with the Bulldogs, the Florida transfer batted .266/.395/.401 in 52 games, including .357 with four RBI in three postseason appearances.

In total, the Braves have selected seven pitchers (all right-handed), three infielders and two catchers through the first two days of the draft. Eight of Atlanta’s first 12 picks have come from the collegiate ranks, although each of the first three selections were high school draftees.

The 2022 First-Year Player Draft concludes tomorrow with rounds No. 11-20. Selections begin at 2:00 p.m.
