680 THE FAN, ATLANTA –
All the talk, and rightfully so, is about the huge news out of Athens on Wednesday and the George Pickens season ending injury. Devastating for sure but it can’t be an excuse for the Dawgs. Injuries happen and its only March, leaving Kirby & Todd Monken plenty of time to overcome the loss. Everyone I talk to that knows UGA football says it’s the Dawgs deepest position. Find a way Bulldogs!

I’m sick and tired of twitter trolls, especially of the college sports variety. The E.J. Liddell story out of Ohio State pisses me off to no end. There never has been and never will be a situation that warrants fans to harass college athletes. Those two fans who sent those nasty tweets to Liddell should be hunted down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Make an example out of them and let it be known this will not be tolerated…EVER! All college athletes should be celebrated at every turn and treated like heroes.

Speaking of college hoop, how awesome has it been to see the raw emotion the game elicits from the players & coaches? From the celebrations of Arkansas Head Coach Eric Musselman to the devastation of Luka Garza after the Hawkeyes loss to Oregon, the win or go home nature of March Madness is just amazing! You can avoid college basketball all Winter long, know nothing about the teams in the Big Dance, and the passion of the tournament will still get you choked up whether you want it to or not! I know the March Madness ratings have been in fairly steady decline the past decade but who cares. It is still a spectacle worth your time every Spring!

Give the NHL mad props for their swift action with Tim Peel. If you are unaware of the story, Peel is a twenty plus year NHL referee who was caught on a hot mic admitting the penalty he whistled against the Nashville Predators was not necessarily warranted but that he wanted to get an early call against the Preds. Wtf? Nashville won the game so Peel’s bull crap didn’t affect the outcome of the game but talk about integrity, or lack thereof. Fans already wonder about officials and their bias nature and this situation only feeds that paranoia. Good riddance to Peel, good job by the NHL.

Did Capital One really need to bring Jim Nantz on board their March Madness campaign? I love the series of commercials they’ve produced with Charles Barkley, Samuel L. Jackson & Spike Lee the past five plus years, but Nantz I can do without! I’ll chalk up this bad decision to Covid.

Our Hawks have lost two in a row on their West Coast swing after opening the trip with a win against the Lakers. I’m not worried. The Hawks will comfortably get the four seed and reestablish themselves after this grueling road trip. Btw, I called out Adam Silver earlier this year regarding his decision to hold an All-Star game. I know he doesn’t directly handle the schedule aspect of the league but who in their right mind thought an 8 game West Coast road trip was a necessity? Pandemic times or not, 8 games out West is a slap in our face!
