680 THE FAN, ATLANTA – I know the sky is falling right now with the news Georgia Tech’s Moses Wright, the ACC Player of the Year, is reportedly going to miss our first-round game Friday against Loyola Chicago. My morning show hosts on The Front Row have already started the whole “it’s so Atlanta” mantra. I say screw that! The Jackets aren’t set to face a behemoth like Jerry Tarkanian’s Runnin Rebs of UNLV or Michigan’s Fab Five. Yes, we are facing a really good Ramblers team from the Missouri Valley Conference. Yes, we are facing Sister Jean and all the good vibes that she brings with her. Yes, we are facing a team with their own Moses Wright in Cameron Krutwig, the 6’ 9” senior who leads Loyola in points, rebounds, assists & blocks. BUT, Pastner’s boys are a veteran bunch who have been through the wars of the ACC, won the ACC Tournament, and have won 8 in a row. Speaking of the ACC Tournament, Wright was pretty unimpactful with only 7 points & 6 rebounds in the win over Miami in the quarterfinals and a quiet 15 points & 8 rebounds in the championship win over FSU. He only shot 8 for 22 from the field in the two games and fouled out against the Hurricanes. Yes, this is a big loss for Jacket fans to deal with but it is not the death nail it would be for some teams. Whether it’s Jose Alvarado, Michael Devoe, Jordan Usher or Bubba Parham, we have seasoned players with experience at the ready to pick up the slack.
Georgia Tech’s run to the Big Dance was a surprise and something we didn’t see coming just three weeks ago……maybe that’s the new “it’s so Atlanta!”
