I Wish It Was Sean Payton Leaving NOLA

680 THE FAN, ATLANTA – As a lifelong Falcons fan, I probably don’t hate Drew Brees as much as I should. I certainly don’t like the guy, however, like most of you I respect him every much. To be honest, as much as his game has declined the past couple of seasons, I would have been just fine had he decided to come back for another season. Sean Payton is the one I despise in NOLA, let me know when he decides to depart The Big Easy. Regarding Brees’ move to NBC, am I the only one who doesn’t find the move all that compelling? I don’t find Brees dynamic or a big personality. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong but I doubt it. And bring on Jameis!

I predicted in this space late last week that the Yellow Jackets will make an Elite 8 appearance in the Big Dance. After seeing the bracket and the Jackets draw, I’m not feeling very good about my bold statement. Pastner’s boys got screwed with the 9th seed and will absolutely have to earn their trip to the Sweet 16 with wins over Loyola Chicago and No. 1 seed Illinois. I’m keeping the faith….but just barely.

On the other side of the prediction ledger I might have shorted our Hawks. I said they will secure the 6th seed in the East with a strong second half of the season and as of Tuesday the Hawks had won five in a row and were 6-1 under Nate McMillian. Is the 5th seed or even the 4th seed out of the question? I think not! There’s speculation that De’Andre Hunter might be ready for our daunting West Coast swing that begins this weekend. That would be huge!

As a twenty-five-year Atlanta sports radio veteran, I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never been to Atlanta Motor Speedway for one of our NASCAR races. I’ve been to AMS but it was a weekday when there was nothing going on. I’m not a gear head at all but I know that I’d love the spectacle of a Sunday race. What I hate most is how the race often gets lost among everything else going on in this incredible sports event town….Braves Spring Training, March Madness, Spring Football, etc. This year seems no different.

Question: Why do they always wait till Monday night to do the Women’s Selection Show? I know the Men’s Selection Show is a CBS product while the Women’s is an ESPN product, but wouldn’t they be better served by doing it in conjunction with the men’s and have a bigger audience? Just curious. Speaking of selections, anyone surprised Tom Crean’s boys weren’t invited to the NIT? I’ll say it again. Georgia fans should be embarrassed by the state of their basketball program. Football powers are wining on the hard court, so why shouldn’t UGA? The top three teams in the final College Football Coaches Poll in January….Bama, Ohio State & Clemson….all made the Field of 64. Enough said!
