680 THE FAN, ATLANTA – Wednesday morning, the Braves placed both Ozzie Albies (right wrist bone contusion) and Matt Adams (strained left hamstring) on the IL. Neither move comes as a surprise following Brian Snitker’s comments after last night’s game. For Adams, the injury was sustained as he was running out a ground all in the bottom of the fourth. He was replaced by Johan Camargo at DH for the fifth and Camargo ended up going 2-for-3 with a single, RBI double and run scored. As for Albies, this is not a new injury. He’s been trying to play through wrist soreness for the last couple weeks, but Tuesday night it became clear that he just wasn’t himself.

The good news is, the Braves have depth in the middle of the infield. Charlie Culberson has gotten just two at bats off the bench in the first twelve games of the year, while Adeiny Hechavarria started those two games over the weekend in Ozzie’s absence. In addition, the club could also utilize Johan Camargo at second base for a few days and let Austin Riley, who crushed a three run blast in last night’s win, get more starts at third.

When it comes to the DH position, I’d expect Ozuna to move into that role on a more regular basis with Nick Markakis also being a possibility. Markakis joining the team tonight as part of the flurry of roster moves made by the team today. Alex Jackson will also come up from the camp in Gwinnett to add another bat to the bench. We’ve said all along depth will be paramount in this condensed season, and the Braves have probably seen it as good as anybody as to how important it is to have options to deal with injuries to key players.
