COACH SMART & BULLDOGS NEED PLAYMAKERS

BUCK BELUE
ATLANTA, Ga – It was painfully obvious this season. The Bulldogs did not have enough playmakers, especially at the wide receiver position. That’s got to change.

Because Jake Fromm is not a running threat, the Bulldogs need multiple playmakers on the outside for the offense to be dangerous. It seems that in-coming quarterback Carson Beck is also a pocket, pro-style QB. So, the next 3-4 years, the secret sauce will be having playmaking, big-play wide receivers for Fromm & Beck to get the ball to.

George Pickens will be the “Go-To-Guy” next season, but that’s not enough to win big. And I sure hope that young George will decide to push himself to grow and develop his skills this offseason. Hopefully, he can learn from that rookie mistake in the Tech game too.

Blaylock will be coming off an ACL injury, but he showed off some playmaking skills this season! The Bulldog Nation is counting on him to rehab quickly and be back for the start of next season.

The recruiting class that signs this week features a wide receiver that impressed me on video. Marcus Rosemy is a strong, physical receiver with ball skills. He’s already a polished route-runner, whose skill set includes beating press man coverage, with strong technique. Rosemy looks like a guy that can come in and immediately compete for reps at receiver.

Justin Robinson is an impressive, big receiver prospect from McDonough. He was a man among boys this past season. A physically impressive force on the outside. Good athlete. Good hands. He’s got an opportunity to grab some playing time in Athens quickly.

Coach Smart and his staff are currently searching for some more wide receiver options in this recruiting class. They can certainly sell opportunity!

Some guys simply haven’t worked out. It’s been a tough transition for Landers, Bush and Blount. They have yet to make an impact, when they had an opportunity to do so. That’s disappointing for everyone involved.

The Bulldogs staff would be smart to add a tight-end option, who can make plays too. The best bet is Darnell Washington, who may or may not sign with the Bulldogs this week. Why would he sign with Georgia, you ask? Well, because they desperately need his ball skills to win big.
