While most Braves fans probably went to bed disappointed about a 12 inning loss to the Reds on Tuesday night, many were probably pleasantly surprised when they woke up Wednesday to hear the news that top prospect Ronald Acuña was being promoted to the Big Leagues. Acuña, who had two more hits for Gwinnett on Tuesday was informed of the promotion following the game, and is expected to join the Big League club tonight in Cincinnati.

The season got off to a slow start for Acuña who had expanded the zone and had swing and miss numbers that were higher than normal. But over the last week, he’s been able to settle into a groove and has been seeing the ball much better. Alex Anthopoulis said late last week that they wanted to bring him up when he got hot and started to click. With 11 hits in his last 33 at bats, including a home run on the previous homestand, it certainly looks like Acuña has found his stride.

Having just turned 20, he joins Ozzie Albies as the two youngest players in the Majors. But all along, Front Office folks, scouts and coaches have all been saying the same thing about Acuña, that he will be a “young Big Leaguer.” He now has that opportunity starting on Wednesday. The future is bright and will continue to get more opportunities here in Atlanta. So, buckle up and enjoy the ride Braves fans. Friendly reminder that first pitch tonight in the Queen City is at 6:40pm ET right here on 680 The Fan and the Atlanta Braves Radio Network!
