Jeff Fisher: Greg Robinson “Needed a Break"

helmet-ramsRams coach Jeff Fisher has a habit of protecting high draft picks from situations they’re not prepared for.

And after benching former No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson, Fisher said his left tackle needed a chance to catch his breath after a string of bad performances.

“We made a decision during the week to give Greg Robinson a break, a week off, because he needed it,” Fisher said, via
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. “There was just a lot going on, too many mental errors and too many penalties.

“But I would expect Greg to return to the lineup. Just one of those things. I’ve dealt with them before with young players. He just needed a moment, he needed a break, so we’ll get him back and get him going.”

Robinson was penalized 12 times in the first nine games, which is high even by Rams standards.

David Johnson Makes History For Hapless Cardinals

cardinals-desktopThe Cardinals aren’t good this year. Cardinals running back David Johnson, in contrast, is really good.

David Johnson generated more than 100 yards from scrimmage in each of his first 11 games of the season.

Via the NFL, Johnson matches former Colts running back Edgerrin James as the only players in league history to accomplish that feat. James did it twice, in 2000 and 2005. (And, yes, in honor of James — maybe — we’ve mentioned Johnson’s accomplishment twice.)

For the year, Johnson has 921 yards rushing and 613 yards receiving. He also has 13 total touchdowns.

RG3's Girlfriend: "Stadium Valet Stole Our Money ... During Browns Game!"

Robert Griffin III‘s girlfriend claims a valet at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland ransacked the wallets they left in their car during Sunday’s game … and stole all of their cash.

brownsGrete Sadeiko — who has been publicly dating RG3 since the summer — said she left her car with a valet in the “players and family garage” to watch the Browns take on the Giants … and when she returned, the money had been taken out of their wallets.

Grete posted about the alleged incident on Twitter — and when people began to question why she left their wallets in the car in the first place, she roared back.

“Ain’t about why we left wallets in the car we parked in PLAYERS AND FAMILY PARKING GARAGE! I should be able to leave anything I want there.”

We’ve reached out to Cleveland police — who say they have no record of a report being filed about the incident.

We’ve also reached out to RG3 and Grete — so far, no word back.

South Carolina Players: ‘So Many Racial Slurs’ From Clemson

pick-team-clemsonDuring South Carolina’s 56-7 loss to Clemson on Saturday night, one of the Tigers’ offensive linemen used a racial slur toward a Gamecocks defensive lineman, South Carolina linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams said after the game.

“They used the n-word, one of their offensive linemen. I don’t know which number,” Allen-Williams said. “We are going to get our get-back. We definitely have this game circled next year.”

Wide receiver Terry Googer, who was visibly upset after the game, said this on Twitter: “Never thought I would hear so many racial slurs in my life!! Classless is not a strong enough word to describe the actions!”

On Sunday, Googer said it was fans, not players, with the unkind words.

“My experience was with fans! I can’t speak for any other player on my team,” he tweeted.

Clemson beat South Carolina 56-7 after some members of each team had a brief confrontation on the field 80 minutes before the game.

“They disrespected us,” Allen-Williams said. “We are waiting 365 days to get this team back. They did a lot of disrespectful things on the field. We are on a mission. We are definitely going to be ready.

“I don’t want to talk too much about it because it’s irrelevant now. The score was what it was.”

South Carolina defensive lineman Dante Sawyer referenced a racial slur in a postgame tweet.

“racism still alive in Clemson i see.. classless sobs, still calling people (racial slur) is crazy,” was posted on Sawyer’s Twitter page shortly before midnight.

On Sunday, Sawyer said via Twitter that Clemson senior offensive lineman Jay Guillermo contacted him about the situation.

“With all the tension following the game @Jay_Guillermo57 reached out about the situation, received all my respect,” Sawyer posted.

Brian Kelly Denies Reports About Other Jobs

ndleprechaun-svgNotre Dame coach Brian Kelly strongly denied a report that stated he is casting eyes elsewhere.

A report late Saturday indicated that Kelly’s representatives were looking at potential options outside of Notre Dame. In a statement issued through the school, Kelly denied those rumors.

One wonders if Kelly is worried about his job security in South Bend. As recently as October, it was said publicly that his position was safe. The team hasn’t improved much since then, though, and on top of that, they were punished pretty severely for an academic scandal that happened on Kelly’s watch. Perhaps all that has changed some things about how Kelly is viewed. Either that or Kelly is simply playing nice.

Hey Millennials: It’s Time To Leave the Nest

livingathome-620x400For the first time on record, living with parents is now the most common arrangement for people ages 18 to 34, an analysis of census data by the Pew Research Center has found.

To that point, about 33 percent of all millennials live with their parents, slightly more than the proportion who live with a spouse or partner. It’s the first time that living at home has outpaced living with a spouse for this age group since such record-keeping began in 1880.

Dwight Howard CHALLENGES LAKERS FAN TO FIGHT!

“Call Me a Bitch to My Face!”

Dwight Howard doesn’t like being called a bitch — and was physically restrained when he got into it with a Lakers fans after the game Sunday night.

TMZ Sports has footage in which you can hear a man shouting obscenities at Howard after the Lakers beat the Hawks 109-94 at Staples Center.

At one point the man — who we’re told appeared to be in his 20s — says, “You’re a bitch!”

Dwight — who was on the way to the locker room — stopped in his tracks and jawed back at the heckler, “Come back here and say it.”

A team official grabs Howard and starts physically pushing the 6’11” superstar back toward the tunnel … as he continues to challenge the fan.

It’s not the first time Howard’s been heckled at Staples — the former Laker was taunted last year with a “Kobe” chant during a playoff game against the Clippers. He wasn’t happy then either.
