Jeff Francoeur Traded To the Marlins

Wednesday night, the Braves completed a three team trade that sent veteran outfielder Jeff Francoeur to the Marlins in exchange for Minor League infielder Dylan Moore. With Giancarlo Stanton set to miss the majority of the remainder of the season, Miami is in need of a veteran piece that can help get them over the hump and into the Postseason. The Fish entered play on Wednesday just one-and-a-half games out of the second Wild Card spot.

Frenchy has appearedJeff in 99 games this season with the Braves after returning on a Minor League deal the second week of Spring Training. Overall, Francoeur hit .249 with 13 doubles, 7 homers and 33 RBI in 257 ABs, but continued his success against lefties, batting .273 against southpaws this season. In 56 starts between LF, RF and DH, Francoeur hit .256 when in the starting lineup.

Returning to the Braves from the Rangers is 23 year old Minor league catcher Dylan Moore, who was taken by Texas in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of the University of Central Florida. Moore split time this season between Hickory and High Desert, batting a combined .263 with 25 doubles, 3 triples, 14 homers and 59 RBI in 494 plate appearances. Moore has played every position this season, except catcher, starting the majority of his games at first base and shortstop.

In addition, Atlanta also acquired catcher Matt Foley, who was taken by the Marlins in the 40th round of the 2015 Draft out of Rhode Island College. The 22 year old has hit .257 in 14 games this season between the Gulf Coast Marlins and Class-A Battavia.

While Francoeur’s time in Atlanta may be coming to an end for 2016, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see him re-sign with the Braves this off-season, similar to what we saw after Kelly Johnson was traded to the Mets last July.
