Blog 4 -- 8/31/13 Part 2
Hello from Death Valley we are about 2-3 hours from kickoff.
Got out and about this afternoon in Clemson and hit up some great places to have fun before a kickoff. BUT before I get to downtown Clemson there is a must on every Saturday in the South on the way to a football game. Boiled peanuts yummy!
First stop was at the famous Esso Club, a sports bar here in Clemson that has been named "Best Bar in the South" and "Top pick for college sports bars". It lives up to the billing! The actual bar is to small to fit all the patrons looking to hang out for the day so they fence off the outside area and set up temp bars out side. It's a great scene full of friendly fans from both sides just looking to have a great time and a few drinks before kickoff. Next stop on the day is just a couple blocks down College Ave, TD's. This was the place to be in my opinion mostly because there was alot of red and black as I looked around the 2 story restaurant/bar. There were plenty of TVs around to watch the full slate of games that had already kicked off or were soon to kick. Nothing you wouldn't expect to see on a sports bar menu here and plenty of people standing around eating but not what I'm looking for so after the end of the Texas A&M game time to head out for some grub. Looking for some good BBQ and been told Sardi's Den is a good place to try. Got the "Big Rack" which is a 1.5 lbs of ribs in their own Red sauce.
The place wasn't to far from the downtown scene which made it easy to get to and back to downtown. Inside the place was about half full, service was good but food wasn't anything special. I'd give other places a try before heading back there on future trips. Overall I'd give the PreGame atmosphere here in Clemson a B. The only points really getting taken off for lack of good food. Nothng seemed to stick out as the place to grab some grub. But the party, drinking and tailgate scene all great. Next up kickoff. Had a very easy, fast and smooth ride up last night from Atlanta in the Cadillac ATS. The car handles great as you would expect from the 2013 North American Car of the Year. The XM Satellite Radio in the car let me hear the whole Braves game all the way up and helped me not have to play the find the affiliate game. I did make one stop off 85 in Commerce, GA for a fair that was set up in the parking lot of shopping center. I set a new personal best of 4 straight rides on the Ring of Fire without puking.
Walking around the hotel last night I noticed that Marshall Morgan was here with the team. So the best kept secret in all of college football of will he or won't he play still goes unanswered as suspended player can travel with the team. I guess we will see who is kicking during warm ups. Bout to head out the door 9 hours before kickoff tonight so plenty of time to take in the sights and sounds of Clemson on a gameday. Check back in with you from the stadium but be sure to follow me on twitter @AG680 for update and pictures from the road. Go Dawgs!

Here it is, my ride!
A 2013 Cadillac ATS, I'm sure if you see it on the road you will notice it. So don't be shy honk, wave or give me the finger if I cut you off. About to head up 85 N on my way to the first game of the season in Clemson, SC at "Death Valley". It has been a long off season as we have all waited for this game. Both teams are ranked preseason in the Top 10, both schools QBs are preseason Heisman candidates and the thought is the game will come down to which schools young defense can stop the others high powered offense. We will see how things turn out tomorrow. But more importantly for me I'm looking forward to see how Clemson, SC is on gameday. I have a couple places on my list to stop like The Esso Club, TD's & and tailgate being put on by some friends of a friend. Be sure to follow me on Twitter @AG680 as I'll tweet pics and updates from the road. Talk to you from SC and Go Dawgs!

If you get one thing from this blog as I travel around the southeast, make sure it is this. If someone comes to you and says "If we give you a 2013 Cadillac ATS (the 2013 North American Car of the Year by the way) to travel to all the UGA Away game (or insert your favorite school) will you go?" Don't just say yes, scream it at them as loud as you can and possibly even before they finish the question . That is the opportunity I've been given this season thanks to the great people at Cadillac and of course 680 The Fan. I will travel to 6 city throughout the season, Clemson, Knoxville, Nashville, Jacksonville, Auburn and Atlanta (yeah I know but it's still technically an away game). My goal is to not so much bring you the latest depth chart activity or insider thoughts on the game although I will mix that in from time to time but to bring you the flavor and the atmosphere of the city on and leading up to gamedays. Places to eat, drink and tailgate. Things to do in the host cities and at times things to do on the way to the host cities from Atlanta. With that in mind if you know of great places I should experience in these cities let me know and I'll definitely add them to the list of places to check out.
