While only pitchers and catchers were required to report to The Wide World of Sports, many position players could be found roaming the halls of Champion Stadium on Monday morning. Justin Upton, Dan Uggla and Chris Johnson all spent time in the batting cages getting in some extra work. Position players are due to report on Thursday and have their first official workout on Friday.
In the early morning hours, Tim Hudson could be found throwing in right field with his son Kade by his side. One year ago, Hudson still recovering from lower back surgery and had to miss the first month of the season. “I still feel very excited to be here. I feel as healthy as I’ve been in a long time” said Hudson on Monday morning.
Newcomer Justin Upton also spent Monday morning getting acquainted with his new teammates. Upton was quite upbeat as he talked about the potential the Braves 2013 lineup contains. “We can change games fast with power and speed. It should be fun to sit back and watch and be part of it” said Upton. His brother BJ still lives in Tampa and is expected to be in camp in the next day or two.
