Frank Wren and the Braves Front Office delivered fans an early holiday present as they’ve come to terms with prized free agent B.J. Upton. Upton spent eight seasons with Tampa, and owns a .255 lifetime batting average with 118 HR and 447 RBI in 966 career games with the Rays. The 28 year old was also drawing interest from teams like the Phillies and Reds, but ultimately chose to sign in Atlanta. With Chipper Jones retiring at the end of the 2012 season, the Braves now have a new face of the franchise. Atlanta also needed to find more balance in a lefty-heavy lineup, which is why Upton was so tempting. Upton’s five year, $75 million dollar deal is pending a physical on Thursday in Atlanta. If fans needed any confirmation, Upton unofficially confirmed the signing with the changing of his Twitter avatar late Wednesday afternoon!
