ATLANTA, Ga – The Bulldogs stay in the College Football Playoff mix at #4, again this week. And that’s where they should be right now, coming off a strong road victory over Auburn.
The Georgia defense continues to dominate and they Hunkered Down at Jordan-Hare. Shut down the Auburn run game. Set the edge consistently and did not allow the Tigers to get big plays outside on the perimeter.
Both boundary cornerbacks are holding up this season. In fact, DJ Daniel & Eric Stokes are balling! They combined for 13 tackles and Daniel had a huge pass break up. However, against the spread offenses, it’s the inside, nickel & dime corners that are the key to slowing down the R-P-O’s. Both Mark Webb and Divaad Wilson are performing at a high level! They are strong run defenders and are athletic enough to cover. Webb and Wilson are totally under the radar, but they are showing up big on video. Bet LSU has noticed.
Offensively against Auburn, the ‘Dogs got a huge boost with the early Fromm to Blaylock big-play TD! Jake got a clean pocket and had time to work from one side of the field to the other, before dropping a dime over the top. That was the biggest play of the game.
The young wide receivers not getting open against man coverage resurfaced, when Cager left the game after his early catch (shoulder). Kearis Jackson did not come back to the ball on a stop route. Blaylock did not make the catch on another big 3rd down pass, in tight man coverage. Pickens was quiet. Got to figure this has got to change, if the Bulldogs are going to beat the top teams. This is the ‘Dogs biggest weakness right now.
By the way, big center Trey Hill was a bully against Auburn. He tossed Derrick Brown around like a rag doll, on the Blaylock vertical shot. Protection was solid and Swift did get his 100-yard game. So, the O-Line stepped up.
It got interesting late, but it was an impressive win!
